Gotcha!! Didn't I..The curiosity got the better of you and off you came looking to read what could possibly be in the post.
Welcome to the Power of Negative .
Not that we are not aware of this overwhelming of all things Negative.Negative raises the bar of curiosity, makes us explore things which from the very onset are dictated to us as prohibited.
So, why not use the same for a Blog Title!! I noticed it in action at Vishal Gondal's article on TED India - waste of time and money .It pulled me instantly to click on the link since the blogosphere was filled with good things about TED.So, the curiosity quotient went higher to read a contrary perspective.
A friend forwarded me a possible viral newsletter mail from Symbiosis Bangalore. The mailer read "Join SIBM-B at your own risk!" With the IIPM backlash doing the rounds, i thought SIBM has been exposed too. But, all changed once i opened the mailer and started going through it.
Here is a snap-shot of what the mailer read,
You can read the complete mailer here
PS:: I am not evangelizing SIBM here , nor i have been paid to do so(I wish it was though :0 )
However, it is an interesting and a viral strategy to get the message across.I hope they are as good as the creative minds behind it.Marketers can get a lot of traction with this art of negative given the execution is carried out well because a negative title like this can be a double edged sword.Go a wee bit wrong and it backfires.
Do let me know if the Blog Title increased the temptation to click on the link?
So, when are you writing an creative negative title on your blog!!!
YEah it did Ankit...Another gem of an article!!
Danke!! Glad you liked it!!
The response from Twitter,Stumble Upon has been decent!! Got 30 odd hits within 5 minutes.
But then, i needed more originality to make it more viral..The learning continues:-)
And on a lighter note now i realise why my article http://totalgadha.com/tgtown/loser/2009/12/14/me-suffering-from-whine-fluare-you-too/
didnt fetch many readers..i shud have titled it I M NOT SUFFERING FROM WHINE FLU..RU...hee hee hee;)
lol..See i am already leading to people thinking of better blog titles:-)
As i mentioned, it is a double edged sword!! Can work both ways.
Anywas how bout 'This article has WHine Flu' :-) That would have scared the living day lights outta me and yet, i would have cliked on it:-)
isnt this phenomena called reverse psychology ??
Learning...learning:)...gotta be super creative..though i poured all the creativity in the content but somehow title could have been more catchy...keep it coming the tips Ankit..they are helpful
It might be!! I have to be frank, my knowledge is nada-zilch-zero on anything related to psychology!!But, it very well might be.
We have a tendency to explore the forbiddden!!
Exactly!!! The learning curve has to rise exponentially:-) The content was creative and captivating! However, the critical moron that i am ,i can always do with a little larger font and a bit of Bold formatting here and there.Keeps my interest alive specially when its a long post!!
But then, the content was sticky and i did read through!! It is t only fr the first look that i feel a little wary of long articles:-)
Keep at it and keep iteerating!!!
Hey Ankit,
That's a well known trick..do keep exploring the creativity in negativity. :)
Hey ankit!!! Amazing article..
I have been thinking hard about, how to choose my blog title..well u gave me a way, indeed. Thanx for it.
Glad to help:-) However, this is a one-off thing.Overdoing will kill the effect:-)So, choose wisely and use rarely
Hi Pooja!! The trick is indeed well known, but then i haven seen it used often and effectively. So, i just thought of sharing it and testing my creativity:-)
yeah i've read this mail and I was also sceptical before opening that mail.. :D
but I think this strategy didnt work with me.. I didnt clicked the link not coz of any fear ofviral attack or something but just that it didnt appeal me.. but still I retweeted it to spread it acros my timeline so that those who want to can read which I do most of the time if someone publishes his/her post.. :D
