As if the Nobel Peace Prize committee's decision to bestow Mr.Barrack Obama with the Nobel Peace wasn't foolish enough , looks like Mr.Obama is out there to make a complete mockery of it.
President Barack Obama is to send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan in a rapid deployment to be in place within six months, US officials have said. (Source: BBC News)
It is interesting to note that US already has 68,000 troops in Afghanistan and Mr.Obama is requesting 40,000 more soldiers to bring the situation under control in Afghanistan.
The move is targeted to deliver a quick punch to the growing violence and an End Game Strategy.
I am no expert on matters like this but from what my little knowledge allows, I do not think that America handled Afganistan in a proper way.IMHO they did not handle Iraq too well either and IRAN is giving them enough trouble.
Why should the US consider itself the Big Daddy of World Peace and poke its nose everywhere( or rather Oil Producing nations :-) ).With its economy in doldrums, US would be better off taking care of the Credit Crisis at home rather then pretending to rid the world of terrorism.
Update :: I tweeted about the post on twitter and @startonomics lent his thoughts on the post which add a fresh perspective to the post.SO, i felt it is better to put it here verbatim.
He does make a point in the discussion with the opinion that US even with its vested interests might do some good to humanity by acting to eradicate Talibanism.
PS:: I can't signify the importance of twitter more.It is probably the best place to have insightful micro discussions on the web.You can follow me at @ankit_a .
While I am not a proponent of the Nobel Prize bestowed on Obama, I would agree with his decision of sending more troops to Afghanistan. Having been plunged into both Afghanistan and Iraq by George Bush, it is imperative that America leaves only when it finishes its job there. If they withdraw from there in the current scenario, rest assured the Taliban will rear its head once more.
Leaving midway while helping terrorism grow once again would also undermine America's already badly damaged reputation.
True Rachit!!! Infact, even i am not of the opinion that US should withdraw from its fight against Taliban. My issue is the way they have handled the situation. The media filled with images of torture bestowed upon the innocent civilians still haunts me.If its a fight against terrorism let it be just that and nothing more
sending more troops to Afghanistan is completely justified as it this juncture, the obama adminstration isn't left with too many options. No doubt, the way the situation over there has been dealt with and the way America envisaged the Afghanistan situation and kept it before the world, they have to take this till the end in order to sustain their hegemony over the other nations... and by the way, lets not mix it with the Nobel Prize.. He has done a lot in just a year.!
True Harmit.I guess i posted a knee jerk reaction based on the past atrocities that innocent civilians had to bear.I just hope this one hits the target alone and not the vicinity.
Moreover, i do not agree with the "he has done a lot in the year" .This does not qualify anyone for a nobel ,and a peace nobel at that. This is going to be a mystery for me until someone can really justify the validity of it!!!
Glad to have you dropping by and offering ur insights!! Looks forward to more discussions
